BCI Hawker have built our home in Kingscliff. Our personal situation meant we could not check on progress regularly so we needed someone we could trust to project manage our build and love it like their own. That is exactly what the BCI Hawker team do.

We engaged the services of Stephen and Shantelle from BCI Hawker after terminating the contract of our first builder mid-build. The experience that we have had with them as opposed to our first builder could not be more different and our only regret is that we did not use them from the beginning. Steve's team of tradesman are craftsman in the true sense of the word and his sub-contractors are first-rate and generally just good people.

Being an architecturally designed house, there were many decisions that needed to be made during the build process. I was away a lot but my trust in Steve meant that I could happily leave decisions to him and have confidence that he would choose the best course of action. Where there were multiple possible choices available that would have an aesthetic impact, Steve would outline the options and give his opinion on the pros and cons of each which would then allow us to make an informed decision. Importantly from my wife’s point of view, her interactions with Steve and all other tradesman on site were always positive and any questions asked were answered without condescension.

At the handover stage, Steve’s eye for detail saw him picking up on small things needing rectification that I would have missed. Moving into a new house is a lot like the launch of a new ship. There are always going to be small problems that arise as new electrical systems and such are used for the first time. This is where the true value of having a good relationship with your builder and in turn he having the same with his sub-contractors becomes obvious. As an example, we had a small problem with a hot water system after our first night in the house. After calling Steve on a Sunday morning we had the plumber and electrician on site almost immediately. I doubt that this level of service would be provided by many builders.

Finally, the most material example of our level of satisfaction with Stephen is that we are still on speaking terms after the house has been completed! We have no hesitation in recommending BCI Hawker and Steve is always welcome to bring prospective clients to our home to see the quality of the work he does first-hand.

After much deliberation in finding the right builder to suit us, we found Steve and Shantelle from BCI Hawker and engaged them to build our new home, which turned out to be the best decision we could have made.

Steve is an amazing builder and is hands-on, along with Jason and Rupert, his carpenters. He has an exceptional eye for design and detail and produces a true quality finish. His team of local tradesmen are of an extremely high standard and work so well together; they are a great team, which is the foundation of a good builder.

Steve went above and beyond our expectations, and we would highly recommend him to anyone thinking of building or renovating. We can't thank Steve and his team enough for building our beautiful home.

It is not often you are looking for a sixth star! Working with Steve and Shantelle was a real pleasure. Steve's attention to detail and insistence on quality eased any apprehension we had. Excellent experience! Cannot recommend highly enough. We engaged Steve and Shantelle to build our architect-designed home in late 2022. At the time COVID had severely affected the building industry with rising prices and the tradesman shortage. Despite the challenges, Hawker BCI delivered our high-quality home on time (6 months to the day!) and on budget.

Both Steve and Shantelle were very hands-on throughout the project and always available to talk with us. COVID presented many supply issues which they were able to navigate through with ease using their experience and supplier contacts. Most of the subcontractors were long-time acquaintances of Steve which resulted in a defect-free build.  

We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have met Steve and Shantelle. Having a previous experience with a bad builder which resulted in a 4-year legal battle, we were very apprehensive at the start of the project. It was long before we knew we had made the right decision. Our home has now been completed for 8 months and our street has many homes that remain unfinished and built to a low standard. Many are using overseas contractors on work visas... Thank you guys!
